Understanding the Odour Comes First
Effective odour control starts with understanding the source of the emissions and the contaminants present.
Industrial odours can contain a complex mixture of compounds, and a treatment technology that performs well in one application may be completely unsuitable for another.
We consider the process itself alongside factors such as airflow, contaminant concentration, temperature, humidity and variations in operating conditions before recommending a treatment approach.

Selecting the Right Treatment Technology
Donaldson Group is not tied to one manufacturer or one treatment technology. Our approach is to understand the application first and then select or combine technologies according to the contaminants, airflow and process conditions.
Activated Carbon & Specialist Media
Activated carbon and specialist adsorption media can provide highly effective treatment of industrial odours, VOCs, hydrogen sulphide and other gaseous contaminants. Correct media selection, contact time, airflow and bed design are critical to achieving effective treatment and reasonable media life.
Wet & Dry Scrubbing
Scrubbing systems can be used where contaminant concentrations or gas characteristics make chemical treatment appropriate, including applications involving acidic or alkaline gases, ammonia and sulphur compounds.
Biological Treatment & Biofiltration
Biological treatment can provide an effective solution for suitable biodegradable odour compounds, particularly where relatively large air volumes require treatment.
UV & Oxidation Technologies
UV and oxidation technologies can be incorporated where appropriate, either as a primary treatment stage or in combination with other technologies.
Multi-Stage Odour Control
Some applications cannot be treated effectively with a single technology. Donaldson can develop multi-stage systems combining technologies such as pre-filtration, scrubbing, oxidation and activated carbon to progressively remove contaminants before treated air is discharged.

New Systems & Existing Installations
Not every odour problem requires a completely new system. Donaldson can design new odour control installations as well as investigate existing systems where performance has deteriorated, operating conditions have changed or the original treatment process is no longer achieving the required results.
For existing installations, we can assess airflow and extraction performance, fan and ductwork design, filter condition, pressure drop, activated carbon and media selection, contact time and changes within the production process.
Where appropriate, an existing system can often be modified, reconfigured or upgraded with additional treatment stages rather than completely replaced.
Our approach is simple: understand why the existing system is not performing before recommending what needs to change.
